Caerhays Hybrid Plants
All these hybrids were bred and raised at Caerhays Castle Gardens in the last 80 years.

Caerhays has a long history of plant breeding and hybridisation, we have several articles on the history of many of these plants on the Caerhays website.

New growth is a striking golden-yellow. Flowers are light mauve. AM 2008

CAMELLIA 'Cornish Snow'
A Caerhays Castle hybrid with small single white flowers in profusion usually from December to April

x williamsii. Soft pink single
CAMELLIA 'John Pickthorn'
x williamsii. Darkish single pink with funnel-shaped flowers

A hybrid raised at Caerhays Castle with huge saucer-shaped salmon-pink flowers
MAGNOLIA 'Caerhays Surprise'
A hybrid between M. mollicomata and M. lilliflora 'Nigra' which flowers at a young age and is suitable for smaller gardens. The flowers open a dark purplish-red and fade to mauvish-purple
MAGNOLIA campbellii 'Kew's Surprise'
Large and distinct translucent pink flowers which are paler inside. The original plant grows at Caerhays Castle and was awarded an FCC in 1967
MAGNOLIA 'F. J. Williams'
A sensational new hybrid raised at Caerhays. Early flowering with a striking deep reddish purple flower
MAGNOLIA 'J.C. Williams'
A Caerhays hybrid between sprengeri diva and sargentiana robusta with a most striking and unusual deep red colour which appears on opening almost black from a distance. Flowers at a very young age and is an absolute must for any enthusiast
MAGNOLIA 'Philip Tregunna'
A hybrid raised at Caerhays by the head gardener whose name it takes. Enormous pink tulip-shaped flowers early in the season
