For Deliveries outside of the UK

This Export Information is available in the following languages: French | German

A) European Countries

There are no longer bureaucratic restrictions on the movement of plants across national borders within the EU PROVIDING the plants come from an approved Nursery or grower and are accompanied by a Plant Passport issued by an approved Nursery or grower. The "Passport" is in practise merely a single identification number on the standard invoice which would always accompany the plants in transit anyway. To gain passport issuing status from the Plant Health Department we have to pay for a number of annual inspections. The costs of these are passed on to customers in the form of a small passport administration charge.
  1. To place an order please fax (preferably), post or email us with a list of the plants which you may require. We will then prepare a detailed estimate showing the cost of the plants which we have available, packing and administrative costs and an ESTIMATE of likely ancillary costs for postage by PARCELFORCE EURO48. Such costs are based entirely on the likely weight, size and volume of the consignment. Obviously, until parcels are packed and actually ready for despatch, there is no way in which our estimate of the carriage costs can be more than an educated guess.

Orders are despatched by PARCELFORCE Euro48. We prefer to despatch orders in the autumn or spring when the plants are dormant as we do remove the plants from their pots together with some of the compost to help reduce the postage costs.

PARCELFORCE deliveries are insured for damage in transit but they are not insured for delays in transit. However, PARCELFORCE do operate a system which enables them to locate a consignment while in transit.

We are unable to locate an alternative international courier service at a reasonable cost. Some customers may however wish to make special arrangements with their own local couriers.

  2. If our estimate is acceptable we must have details of your chosen method of payment before any order can be despatched. Payment by credit card (debited upon despatch) is our preferred payment method. We do accept transactions through our bank but, because the bank charges us an additional £9-12 per transaction, we then have to pass this cost on to the customer.

  3. UK Value Added Tax at 20 % is automatically deducted from the cost of the plants in our estimates for EU customers who are registered for VAT. However, before any order can be processed, we must have the customer's full VAT registration number in order to submit our invoice at the time of despatch.

B) Exports to other countries outside the European Union

  1. Exports to non EU countries are perfectly possible but the procedure is more complex, time consuming and expensive.

  2. Export orders have to be inspected by an official of the UK Plant Health Dept.  who will, if satisfied, then issue a formal Phytosanitary Certificate which must accompany the plants to the overseas port of entry.

We do have to pass the cost of this Ministry inspection on to the customer as stated in our estimate.

  3. All countries have different rules and regulations about exactly which species of plants may or may not be imported. Many countries (for example, USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore) insist that all imported plant material is root washed before despatch so that it is completely soil free. This is a very time consuming process which also has to be supervised by the Ministry. Some countries (for example, USA, Israel) also demand that the customer obtains their own import permit locally which must then be sent to us in advance so that it accompanies the plants in transit.

  4. We despatch the plants by PARCELFORCE EURO48 and PARCELFORCE International Scheduled.

  5. Again it is necessary to fax, send or email us a list of your plant requirements so that we can then prepare a formal estimate. Delivery charges can again only be estimated at this stage.

  6. We must have details of your method of payment before any order can be despatched. Payment by Credit Card (debited upon despatch) is our preferred payment method. We do accept transactions through our bank but, because they charge us an additional £9-12 per transaction, we then have to pass this cost on to the customer.

  7. Customers from countries outside the European Union may deduct 20% UK VAT from our catalogue prices.
