How to Care for Hostas
Dividing Hostas
With David Tricker
1. Select Hosta to tidy and divide
2. Remove all dead leaves
3. Using hands if lose, or secateurs if still partly green
4. Check for pests and remove
5. If in pot, knock out, or if in ground lift using a fork
6. Find the buds and decide where you are going to divide
7. Divide the clump leaving 2 or 3 eyes in each half
8. Use a spade or 2 forks the divide the clump
9. Start to divide the clump
10. Continue to divide until the desired clumps are produced
11.Check the newly divided clumps for pests and damaged buds and remove
12. Put a layer of quality compost in the pot or hole
13. Place hosta in pot/hole and cover
14. Firm into place using hands
15. Water in well
16. Finished article
