Landscaping a Manor House in Devon
This house has commanding views over the Devon countryside but has a well sheltered woodland garden around the recently restored house. After 4 years of building work and a serious fire the borders around the house were badly impacted and full of stone and rubble.
Burncoose were asked to put together a large scale woodland garden with rhododendrons, camellias and azaleas as the main centrepiece. The desire was for a quick and immediate effect so everything was to be specimen sized from the outset. In addition extra large evergreen plants were to be used as a backdrop to give a more immediate effect and additional shelter.
In time these sacrifice plants will no longer be needed and can be removed.
The delivery required 3 separate lorries and simply placing out of the plants took most of the day. Part of the planting was at a new entrance at the bottom of the park a good half mile from the house. In a more windy location nearing the top of the hill a massive hydrangea hedge was created and more choice plants were used in the borders nearer the house.
Rabbits and deer will be a problem in this location but it is hoped that most of the plants are already large enough to escape serious damage.
Once the planting near the house was complete, Burncoose moved onto plant the rest of the garden - see here for more pictures.
