CYTISUS 'Porlock'

Commonly known as Broom




  • Good to know - syn. Genista 'Porlock'. Sometimes blooms in mild winters. Attractive to bees and other insects.
  • Pests & Diseases - gall mites, slugs if growing against a wall.
  • Place of Origin - garden origin.
  • Half hardy - unheated greenhouse / mild winter - Hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK except in severe winters and a risk from sudden (early) frosts. May be hardy elsewhere with wall shelter or good micro-climate. Likely to be damaged or killed in cold winters. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -5°C (23°F)
  • Height - 3m (10ft)
  • Spread - 3m (10ft)
  • Semi-evergreen - Keeps some of its foliage all year, and will drop some leaves as well. - 3-palmate leaves, 1-2cm (½-¾in) long.
  • Tall Shrub - vigorous, arching shrub with upright shoots. Produces flowers, 2cm (¾in) long in terminal racemes.
  • Full Sun - shelter from cold, drying winds
  • Scented flowers - very fragrant.
  • medium to light, fertile, well drained soil
