Burncoose Catalogue Code

Deciduous - oval to elliptic-oblong coarsely to finely toothed leaves.
Tree - flowers appear with the leaves. Males are in spherical heads, females in pairs within 4-lobed bracts which develop into cupules containing nuts.

Hardiness Rating

Fully hardy - Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)

Preferred Location

Full Sun - for best colour in purple beeches.

Soil Conditions

No Preference - tolerant of a wide range of well drained soils including chalk.
