  • Good to know - introduced into the UK by Robert Fortune in 1843. Daphne-like flowers
  • Pests & Diseases - none outside
  • Place of Origin - China
  • Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
  • Height - 1.5m(5ft)
  • Spread - 1.5m(5ft)
  • Deciduous - lance-shaped to oval, dark green leaves to 15cm (6in) long.
  • Medium Shrub - Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height - rounded, open shrub with supple shoots and papery bark. Flowers are produced in spherical heads to 5cm (2in) or more across
  • Against a wall - in frost-prone areas
  • Full Sun
  • Partial Shade - dappled shade
  • Scented flowers
  • Fertile moist well-drained soil - humus-rich, loamy
