Deciduous - dark-green, glossy, toothed leaves to 20cm (8in) long.
Tree - vigorous tree with spirally furrowed bark when mature. Produces small flowers in showy catkins from the leaf axils of young shoots. Edible fruit in autumn after a good summer.
