Additional Plant Details

Good to know - a remnant from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Named in honour of James Dickson, 1738-1822, a British nurseryman. The 'trunk' is the decaying remains of earlier growth and forms a medium through which the roots grow. Can self-sow in Cornish gardens.

Place of Origin - southeastern Asia, Australasia, South America.

Evergreen

Fern - tree-like fern. Water daily by wetting trunk in hotter periods.

Semi-evergreen - Keeps some of its foliage all year, and will drop some leaves as well.

Hardiness Rating

Frost hardy to Frost tender - Plant can withstand temperatures to -5°C (23°F) but might only tolerate as low 5°C (41°F)

Will grow outside in milder locations - This could include plants which would survive happily in a greenhouse or conservatory if not in a mild location. If you have a sheltered spot in your garden then it may do well here.
