Buy your friends and family plants this Christmas for a change. We have a range of Christmas Special Offers – especially Winter flowering Camellias to choose from.
If you have not yet discovered the wonderful scent and brightly coloured flowers of Edgeworthia chrysantha which begin flowering around Christmas why not treat yourself or a gardening friend?
The potted Hyacinths and Narcissus which were plunged outside last month, can now have the sand-grit covering shaken off. The pots should be full of healthy roots and can now be brought into the light and warmth so that they come into bloom for Christmas.
If your greenhouse is unheated you can still provide frost protection by covering the inside of the glass with sheets of polystyrene insulation. In addition, in particularly cold spells cover the plants on the benches with newspaper or, better still, horticultural fleece.
Many of your conservatory plants – especially evergreen ones – are much tougher than you may think and can readily survive a brief spell of minus 5°C. These include Dicksonia, Trachelospermum, Pseudopanax, Leptospermum, Acca, Passiflora and Jasminum so do not worry unduly. Bougainvillea and Sollya may well not be so fortunate!
