Alan Clarke - well known plant collector

This news article is from our news archive, details may be out of date - thank you.
Alan Clarke, the well known plant collector, delivers 50 new wild collected specie rhododendrons to Caerhays.

These species, which he collected in his 2007 expedition to Southern China have all been grown on from seed.

These plants will give a massive boost to the specie rhododendron collection at Caerhays where several original Chinese collected species dating back from the expeditions by George Forrest between 1905 and 1932 have died of old age in the last 10-20 years.

Large areas of laurel are being cleared at the top of the Castle garden to accommodate these very special plants which will, in the meantime, be grown on in the traditional way in open nursery beds in the garden until they are large enough to plant out safely for garden visitors to enjoy in the years to come.
