Job Title: Propagator 
Location: Burncoose Nurseries, Cornwall
Department: Propagation
Reports to: Burncoose Management 
Hours: 39 hours Monday – Friday

Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and experienced Propagator to join our team at Burncoose Nurseries. The successful candidate will take the lead in overseeing all aspects of plant propagation, from seed sowing and a wide variety of cuttings, ensuring the highest standards of plant health and productivity. You will play a vital role in maintaining our reputation for growing top-quality plants, working closely with the Nursery owner, stockist and other team members to meet production goals and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:
    • Lead and manage all propagation activities including seed sowing and year round cuttings. 
    • Supervise and support a small team of propagators, providing guidance and training as required.
    • Monitor and maintain ideal environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, light levels) in the propagation area.
    • Collaborate with management to plan propagation schedules in alignment with production goals and sales demand.
    • Ensure the highest standards of plant health, performing regular inspections for pests, diseases, and any signs of poor growth.
    • Maintain detailed records of propagation activities.
    • Ensure the propagation areas are organized and tidy. 

Qualifications and Skills:
    • Proven experience in plant propagation, including hands-on knowledge of various techniques such as seed sowing and cuttings. 
    • Strong horticultural knowledge, ideally in shrubs and evergreens. 
    • Ability to lead a small team.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • A passion for plants, horticulture, and sustainable practices.
    • Full UK driving license is desirable.

Working Conditions:
    • Full-time, permanent position.
    • Working hours are typically Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work required during peak seasons.
    • The role will be based at Burncoose Nurseries in Cornwall, with opportunities to work outdoors and travel to Caerhays castle to collect material. 
    • Competitive salary based on experience.
