Magnolia 'Tropicana'
An explanation of the objectives of the magnolia hybridisation program at
Caerhays and its achievements. In the last two years seven new hybrids have
been registered with the Magnolia Society International, including M. ‘Caerhays
Splendour’ and M. ‘Tropicana’. These and other better known hybrids from the
past fifty years including M. ‘Caerhays Belle’ and M. ‘Caerhays Surprise’ will be
displayed and discussed at the talk, and (weather permitting) viewed in the
garden.
The talk will be followed by a guided tour which will cover the whole garden and
ignore the regular routes that visitors would normally take, thus is a real 'behind
the bushes' tour. It may also encompass the new 10 acre Magnolia planting in a
greenfield site at the top of the garden (known as Kennel Close) which was open
to the public for the first time in 2012.
Whilst most of the tour is accessible, some of areas are not suitable for disabled
access. Please contact us in advance to discuss access requirements, or for a

Suitable for complete beginners, ideal for all with no prior experience necessary,
all garden lovers would benefit from this interesting lecture.
You will need to bring wet weather clothing and boots just in case.
