Silverbush
This is a widely grown, and perennially popular, plant originating from Mediterranean countries. It is widely grown in windswept and coastal locations where it is extremely resilient. The attraction of the plant is however its foliage and large flowers. C. cneorum has a compact and bushy habit growing to around 2ft with a wider spread. The lance shaped leaves are a silky silver-green and catch the eye especially when the wind blows. The funnel shaped white flowers start to appear in late spring and carry on well into summer. The flowers are pink in bud in clusters from the tips of the twigs. Silver and white are an excellent combination and this plant is a key feature of many more formal ornamental gardens. It can be very effective as an edging plant when grown in quantity in a more formal border.
This plant detests being waterlogged but will thrive in any well drained soil and needs to be planted in full sun for the best flowering effect. Light pruning may occasionally be desirable, if only to keep the plant in shape. Propagation is easiest from softwood cuttings in late spring.
