This rare and unusual plant is a new and inevitably limited addition to our website catalogue which we have only just started to offer for sale.
O. japonica is a deciduous and spreading shrub from woodlands and thickets in mountainous areas of Japan, Korea and China. It is cultivated for its elegant and aromatic foliage and can readily be grown in a woodland garden where it will eventually grow to 6-8ft in height with a rather larger spread.
It is tolerant of dry soils and exposed positions and is perfectly comfortable in sun or dappled shade. Its bright green leaves change to a lemon or white colour in the autumn. The flowers are small and green in the leaf axils as the leaves emerge in the spring. Female flowers are borne singly while male flowers are in small panicles.
We will be propagating this plant from semi ripe cuttings in midsummer.
