False dragonhead, Obedient plant
These are spreading perennials with lance shaped leaves of up to 5in in length. The flower spikes are borne in profusion from midsummer to early autumn. They are about 2ft in height with racemes of white flowers with inflated mouths.
This is an excellent plant for the herbaceous border in full sun. It is also good for cutting and is long lasting in a vase or arrangement indoors. While not terribly fussy these plants grow taller in moist fertile made up soil which does not completely dry out in summer. An autumn mulch after you have tidied up the old flower heads and leaves will do no harm even if these are perfectly hardy plants.
Before the new growth emerges in spring or when dormant in winter you can easily dig and divide clumps to produce more plants.
