Strobilathes - Care Guide
Strobilanthes rankanensis - Care Guide
This is a new introduction for Burncoose from a rare genus of soft stemmed shrubs from woodland margins in Asia. S. rankanensis is therefore a conservatory or greenhouse plant for most of us but one which flowers prolifically in the late summer and autumn with a multitude of delightful blueish funnel shaped flowers.

The plant is branching and spreading in a large pot and our stock plant may yet grow to around 3ft in height with a similar spread. It is an evergreen and has yet to be tested by us in a colder winter. It seems to put on growth in the greenhouse right through most of the year and therefore needs feeding in the summer. We have been lightly pruning our stock plant to generate cuttings and to keep it vaguely in shape.
Something new, rare and spectacular in flower for a ‘plantsman’ to try?
