October Monthly Inspiration

As autumn starts to take hold pause to look around other people’s gardens to see what you might plant to improve the range of autumn colours in your own.

Here are the most spectacular shows which we see in the gardens here by late October. It is hard to be specific as some of these trees and shrubs exhibit a mixture of colours as the leaves mature and fall. However these are some of the very best:

If you would rather enjoy something flowering in October why not try one of the Schima? S. argentea and S. khasiana are evergreens which develop into large shrubs or small trees. They have large single camellia-like flowers in profusion just as the autumn colours put on their best show.

Camellia sasanqua ‘Narumigata’ is normally a cheerful arrival in flower in late October alongside several of the other autumn flowering sasanqua camellias.
