August Monthly Inspiration
August Gardening Tips
One of the most spectacular performers in the garden (or in pots) this month are the agapanthus or African blue lilies. Over the last decade breeders have introduced a whole range of new varieties onto the market and Burncoose offers over 25 different named forms. The colour range has improved so that there are varieties with near black flowers, bicoloured white and blue flowers and white flowers which fade to pink. There are different flower sizes and shapes and even varieties with gorgeous variegated white, yellow and green foliage.
As you can see from the brief video (click here to view) Burncoose has seldom produced such an excellent crop of different forms of agapanthus as this year. We are happy to share this crop with our customers at half price (carriage and packing at the normal undiscounted rates) just for the month of August, please note many of the longer flower stems have been removed to reduce damage in transit and encourage 2nd flowering - many new buds on the way.
Agapanthus grow best in a warm, sunny and well drained part of the garden. The foliage on the bulbs will die down to ground level in full or in part over winter in some varieties but not others. A mulch covering will help protect the bulbs in colder parts of the country.
