June Monthly Inspiration
News and Gardening Tips
Gardening with wildlife in mind.
In the last few years, many of us have become more thoughtful in the way we approach gardening. Whether it be providing food, water and shelter, reducing our use of chemicals, or perhaps just being a little less tidy, each small change can make a difference.
Pollinators can find food in short supply in June when spring draws to a close and summer is still just around the corner. We can add both colour and nectar-rich food sources for bees and other insects at the same time.
Garden herbs like lavender, thyme, sage and rosemary are excellent food sources as are related plants like teucrium and phlomis. Herbaceous geraniums and simple daisy-like flowers are also good choices. Cotoneaster is a particular favourite of bees, and we get the bonus of berries in autumn.
We have a selection of shrubs and perennials in our early summer sales, many excellent for pollinators.
