May Monthly Inspiration

Burncoose Nurseries will again be exhibiting at the Chelsea Flower Show from 24th-28th May after a two year gap. We hope to see a good many of our customers there face to face for the first time for quite a while.

May is the month to enjoy the gorgeous scent from the later flowering and smaller growing scented rhododendrons or ‘the smellies’ as we call them. In colder parts of the country you may well have to grow these in pots in the conservatory or greenhouse but, elsewhere, they can become the centrepiece of a shrub border or woodland garden in the first weeks of May.

Here are a few of the best varieties to try:

a small shrub with dark green leaves and greenish-yellow funnel shaped flowers which age to pale yellow. The flowers are very fragrant.

For those who may have missed Viburnum plicatum ‘Kilimanjaro Sunrise’ we hope to again feature it in flower on our Chelsea stand. This plant was voted the RHS Plant of the Decade by those attending the virtual Chelsea during lockdown in 2020.
