August Monthly Inspiration

June and July have been rather disappointing as regards sun and hot weather but it has to be said that the plants themselves have enjoyed their first really wet, early summer for 3 years. Growth rates in the woodland gardens here have been exceptional and some Magnolias in the nursery are now thinking about a strong secondary set of new growth. Growth rates in our Camellia and Rhododendron stocks, for sale next spring, are also exceptional.

There is one group of plants which we do rather take for granted through the summer, and on into autumn. Fuchsias are often at their very best in August when the herbaceous border is perhaps starting to look tired, and we only have Eucryphia and Hoheria flowering to look forward to in the woodland garden.

There are many interesting forms of Fuchsia and, in August, we are happy to offer you a 30% discount on the following four varieties of Fuchsia:

Climbing fuchsias make really good plants when allowed to romp away through a supportive ‘host’ plant or trained up a wall or fence. Fuchsia ‘Lady Boothby’ can easily get to 6 feet in 3 or 4 years. Its pink and purple flowers on and on for months.

Japanese anemones are the other stand out plants in the herbaceous border in August. These are dominant, tall growing plants which have an instant impact on anyone visiting your garden.
