Commonly known as Contorted hazel, Corkscrew hazel, Harry Lauder's walking stick

Catkin flowers, contorted stems

  • Deciduous - broadly heart-shaped, toothed, mid-green leaves to 10cm (4in) long.
  • Height - 5m (16ft)
  • Spread - 5m (16ft)
  • Tall Shrub - tree-like shrub with strongly twisted branches. Produces catkins 4-6cm (1½-2½in) long.
  • Hardy - very cold winter - Hardy in all of UK and northern Europe. Plant can possibly withstand temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F)
  • Full sun
  • Partial shade
  • Additional Features - Good to know - remove straight-growing suckers. Provides good winter framework and material for floral decoration.
  • Ornamental bark
