Tall Shrub - upright tree-like shrub. Pendent catkins 5-8cm (2-3in) long are purple-tinged as are fruit husks.

Hardy - very cold winter - Hardy in all of UK and northern Europe. Plant can possibly withstand temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F)

Additional Features - Good to know - - native to the Balkans, these nuts were traditionally brought into churches on Aug 20th, St. Philibert's Day.
