COTINUS 'Grace'

Commonly known as Smoke bush, Venetian sumach, Wig tree

Large soft purplish leaves turning scarlet in autumn and large purplish flower clusters

  • Deciduous - oval, purple leaves to 10cm (4in) long, turning brilliant translucent red in autumn.
  • Purple - Shades of purple/mauve/lilac/violet

  • Tall Shrub - vigorous shrub or small tree.
  • Hardy - very cold winter - Hardy in all of UK and northern Europe. Plant can possibly withstand temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F)

  • Additional Features - Pests & Diseases - - susceptible to Verticillium wilt. Powdery mildew may affect purple-leaved varieties.

  • Pruning group - Pruning group 1
    Suitable for: Deciduous and evergreen trees, and some deciduous shrubs.
    Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.
    When: When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap.

    Pruning: Hard prune to a low permanent framework.
