  • Herbaceous Early in the year, typically January till end of March, herbaceous plants might be supplied in 9cm pots to ensure timely despatch.
    Clump forming thistle-like perennial. Leaves, usually spiny, to 50cm (20in) long. Flower heads, 4-8cm (1½-3in) across are produced on grey-woolly stems
  • Hardy - very cold winter Hardy in all of UK and northern Europe. Plant can possibly withstand temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F)

    Good to know - blanched leaf stalks and midribs are edible. Also used for vegetable rennet and biodiesel from the pressed seeds. Wildlife plant - nectar and pollen for insects.
