Fragrant poppy-like bright yellow flowers and grey pointed foliage. Best grown against a warm sunny wall or in a greenhouse in colder areas. Does not travel well, so sent at buyers risk only

  • Evergreen - lance-shaped, leathery, glaucous, grey-green leaves to 10cm (4in) long.
  • Height - 2m (6½ft)
  • Spread - 2m (6½ft)
  • Medium shrub - Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height - spreading shrub with rigid, upright shoots. Produces flowers from spring to autumn.
  • Half hardy - unheated greenhouse / mild winter - Hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK except in severe winters and a risk from sudden (early) frosts. May be hardy elsewhere with wall shelter or good micro-climate. Likely to be damaged or killed in cold winters. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -5°C (23°F)

  • Flower Shape - Single - Row of petals round conspicuous stamens - no more than 8 petals - to 7cm (2¾in) across
  • Garden Location/Conditions - Greenhouse / conservatory - Not the sort of plants to be grown outside where there are likely to be frosts. These plants need to be grown in a conservatory or cool greenhouse or at least brought inside for the winter

  • Pruning group - Pruning group 8
    Suitable for: Wall trained shrubs and less vigorous climbers.
    Action: For climbers 'spur prune' by cutting back 3-4 buds of the permanent framework. For wall trained shrubs cut back flowered shoots to within 2-4 buds of permanent framework.
    When: Annually after flowers if on previous year's growth, or in late Winter or Spring if on current year's growth.
