DESMODIUM elegans

Commonly known as Tick clover, Tick trefoil

(tiliifolium) - erect woody shrub with trifoliate leaves producing a profusion of pale lilac pea flowers in large panicles

  • Deciduous - leaves to 25cm (10in) long, dark-green above, grey and hairy beneath.
  • Shades of pink - All shades of pink through to Carmine (red) - pale lilac
  • Height - 1.5-2m (5-6½ft)
  • Spread - 1.5-2m (5-6½ft)
  • Medium shrub - Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height - flowers in terminal panicles 20cm (8in) long.
  • Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
