Commonly known as Feather-cone fir, Noble fir

  • Evergreen - leaves are 1-3.5cm (½ to 1½in) long with narrow grey bands beneath.
  • Height - 25 - 45m (80-150ft)
  • Spread - 6 - 9m (20-30ft)
  • Conifer - female cones are cylindrical, green and brown, 15-25cm (6-10in) long and are produced on the uppermost branches when the tree is 6m (20ft) tall
  • Tree - whorled branches when young. Becomes broad and columnar with age.
  • Very hardy - Hardy in the severest continental climates including exposed upland locations in the UK. Plant can withstand temperatures < -20 (-4°F)
