Commonly known as California buckeye, California horse chestnut

  • Deciduous - 5- to 7-palmate, mid-green leaves divided into narrowly oval leaflets 10cm (4in) or more long
  • White
  • Height - 8m (26ft)
  • Spread - 10m (33ft)
  • Tree - spreading, short-trunked tree. Produces flowers with long, protruding stamens followed by rough-skinned fruit.
  • Hardy - cold winter - Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)

  • Harmful if eaten - These will give you an upset tummy, so please don't eat any of these.
