    AGAPANTHUS

    Commonly known as African blue lily, Lily-of-the-Nile, Love flower

    All Flower AUG -OCT

    Genus of 6 species of vigorous perennials from southern Africa. Evergreen species are from coastal areas, deciduous ones from more moist mountain grassland in inland regions.

    Most hybrids are deciduous or semi-evergreen and are hardier than the species.  The flowerheads form 3 groups, generally, upward-looking round umbels, pendent umbels and an intermediate form.

    They make long-lasting cut flowers and seed heads are decorative. They make attractive plants for large containers.

      Clump-forming perennial. Produces rounded umbels of open flowers.
    • Hardy - average winter
      Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
      Mulch for winter in cold areas. Bring pots into shelter.
