('Compacta') - prostrate, dwarf form with an attractive bushy habit and pinkish red and cream flowers. Thrives in Cornish conditions and yet has proved hardy in the north

  • Evergreen - crowded, linear to narrowly oblong, hairy, mid-green to greyish green leaves 1-3cm (½-1¼in) long with margins rolled under. Flowers in semi-erect racemes to 6cm (2½in) wide.

  • Spread - 90cm-1.5m (3-5ft)
  • Dwarf shrub - Typically only grows to a maximum of one or two feet in height but there will be some exceptions. - many-branched, rounded shrub, sometimes mat forming.
  • Half hardy - unheated greenhouse / mild winter - Hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK except in severe winters and a risk from sudden (early) frosts. May be hardy elsewhere with wall shelter or good micro-climate. Likely to be damaged or killed in cold winters. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -5°C (23°F)

    Suitable for: Deciduous and evergreen trees, and some deciduous shrubs.
    Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.
    When: When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap.
