Deciduous - light-green fronds to 1m (3ft) long on reddish stalks.
Height - 1.2m (4ft)
Spread - 90cm (36in)
Fern - the crown of the trunklike rhizome is often up to 20cm (8in) above the ground. Sori(spore clusters) are conspicuously J or C shaped.
Very hardy - Hardy in the severest continental climates including exposed upland locations in the UK. Plant can withstand temperatures < -20 (-4°F)
Full shade - sheltered.
Additional Features - Good to know - - the native Lady fern. Can look like a miniature version of the exotic tree fern.

Place of origin - temperate northern hemisphere.
