HIBBERTIA aspera

Commonly known as Golden guinea flower, Rough guinea flower

Attractive small leaved species with bright yellow flowers which is suitable only for the conservatory

  • Evergreen - ovate to lance-shaped, rough, hairy leaves to 2cm (¾in) long
  • Yellow - bright yellow
  • Height - 50cm (20in)
  • Spread - 30cm (12in)
  • Dwarf shrub - Typically only grows to a maximum of one or two feet in height but there will be some exceptions. - small, trailing shrub with densely hairy stems. Produces solitary, terminal flowers to 1cm (½in) across with notched petals
  • Heated greenhouse - warm temperate - Can be grown outside in summer. Plant can withstand temperatures down to 5°C (41°F) - use loam-based compost (JI No. 2) in bright, filtered light
  • Partial shade
  • Additional Features - Pests & Diseases - scale if growing in greenhouse
  • Place of origin - Australia.
  • Garden Location/Conditions - Greenhouse / conservatory - Not the sort of plants to be grown outside where there are likely to be frosts. These plants need to be grown in a conservatory or cool greenhouse or at least brought inside for the winter

  • Soil Conditions - Fertile moist well-drained soil
