    Heart-shaped to oval, toothed, glossy, dark-green leaves 10-20cm (4-8in) long.

    Upright then spreading tree. Produces cymes 5-7cm (2-3in) across of tiny flowers followed by black fruit to 5mm (¼in) across.

    Good to know - after flowering the flower stalks swell, becoming red, fleshy, sweet and edible.

    source of quercetin, an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant, used in the repair of liver damage from alcohol.
