  • Good to know - formerly known as New Zealand oak. The Maori name is used now.
  • Place of Origin - New Zealand
  • Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
  • Height - 4-8m (12-25ft)
  • Spread - 4m (13ft)
  • Evergreen - large, glossy, pinnate leaves, feather-like with serrated edges.
  • Tree - spreading tree producing attractive black seeds in a red fruit from small purple flowers in spring.
