    Dark-green leaves to 10cm (4in) long, grey-white and hairy beneath.

    Yellow-brown male catkins 10cm (4in) long in groups of 3 or 4 are produced in winter and early spring before the leaves followed, in summer, by fruit 1.5cm (½in) long.
