Commonly known as Dead nettle, Spotted dead nettle, Weasel's snout
Excellent ground cover among shrubs and more robust perennials though very invasive in moist, moderately fertile soils. Less vigorous in poor soils.
Genus of about 50 species of annuals and usually rhizomatous perennials from a wide variety of habitats from Europe to Asia and widespread in the Mediterranean and northern Africa.
The UK natives are L. album (perennial), L. purpureum and L. amplexicaule (annuals).
All are valuable insect-attracting plants providing early sustenance.
