Commonly known as Winter honeysuckle
Or semi-evergreen. Paired leaves to 7cm (3in) long, dark-green above, blue-green beneath. Bristly margins when young.
Semi-evergreen Keeps some of its foliage all year, and will drop some leaves as well.
Medium shrub Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height
Bushy, spreading shrub. Tubular 2-lipped flowers, 1cm (½in) long, are produced in pairs from the leaf axils. Berries are dull red.
Hardy - cold winter Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)

Good to know
introduced into UK by Robert Fortune, Scottish plant hunter, 1845. Grow against a wall for better flower production. Good for early insects

Pruning group 2
Suitable for: Deciduous shrubs and trees that flower in Spring or early Summer on previous year's growth, including plants that produce new growth at or near ground level.
Pruning: Prune flowered shoots to strong buds. Cut back approximately 1/4 of old shoots to the base to promote replacement growth.
When: Annually, after flowering.
