  • Good to know - often confused with A. laevis. Young shoots and leaves are white-haired.

  • Place of Origin - probably eastern Canada. Naturalised in Europe from 17th century.

  • Deciduous - bronze leaves, to 8cm (3in) long, turn dark-green, then orange and red in autumn.
  • Tall Shrub - upright-stemmed shrub or small tree. Produces trusses of flowers 6-12cm (2½-5in) long. Sweet, juicy, purple-black fruit.
