  • Evergreen - leathery, glossy, dark-green leaves to 20cm (8in) long, rusty brown beneath
  • Cream
  • Height - 10m (33ft)
  • Spread - 10m (33ft)
  • Tree - dense tree. Most older specimens develop a pyramidal form.
  • Hardy - cold winter - Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)
  • Full sun - shelter from strong winds.
  • Partial shade
  • Additional Features - Good to know - - commonly seen in villa gardens in the Italian lake district
  • Pests & Diseases - scale insects, honey fungus, coral spot.
  • Place of origin - from plants imported from USA to France in the mid 1700's by Baron de la Galissonnière and from there to the UK in the early 1800s

    Suitable for: Evergreen shrubs or climbers that need little to no pruning.

    When: Annually after flowering if on previous year's growth, or in later Winter or Spring if flowering on current year's growth, or as requires.
