  • Deciduous - ovate to heart-shaped, often doubly-toothed, leaves to 15cm (6in) long rough-textured above.
  • Height - 12m (39ft)
  • Spread - 15m (49ft)
  • Fruit - Plants which produce an edible or ornamental fruit
  • Tree - rounded tree. Produces fruit to 2.5cm (1in) long.

  • Hardy - very cold winter - Hardy in all of UK and northern Europe. Plant can possibly withstand temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F)

  • Additional Features - Good to know - best species for edible fruit. Pleasant, slightly acidic flavour. Imported into Britain in the 17th. century as the wrong plant for the raising of silkworms.
