Commonly known as Red chokeberry
Genus of 2 species of deciduous shrub, sometimes classified as Photinia, from woodland clearings, scrub and swamps in eastern North America, conveniently available in red-, black- or purple-berried forms.
The black berries contain significant amounts of anthocyanins, used in cancer research, and are ingredients in juices and teas or eaten dried.
