PROTEA Banksia ericifolia
Commonly known as Heath banksia
Fine small leaves, orange-red flowers in autumn
Evergreen - crowded, alternate, linear, entire leaves 2cm (¾in) long, glossy, mid- to deep green above, silvery beneath
Orange - orange-red
Height - 3-6m (10-20ft)
Spread - 2-4m (6½-13ft)
Tall Shrub - bushy shrub. Produces cylindrical flower heads to 20cm (8in) long
Tender - cool or frost free greenhouse - Tolerant of low temperatures, but not surviving being frozen. Except in frost-free inner-city areas or coastal extremities requires glasshouse conditions. Plant can withstand temperatures down to 1°C (34°F)
Will grow outside in milder locations - This could include plants which would survive happily in a greenhouse or conservatory if not in a mild location. If you have a sheltered spot in your garden then it may do well here.
Additional Features - Good to know - flower colour ranges from orange-yellow to orange-red or russet
Pests & Diseases - Phytophthora root rot. Plants will become chlorotic if soil contains too much phosphate or lime
