  • Evergreen - long, slender seedling leaves to 60cm (24in) long and downward pointing. Seedling leaves are ovate to lance-shaped, coarsely toothed or lobed. Mature leaves are linear. rigid, with red midribs and spine-tipped teeth. On mature plants leaves develop into 3- or 5-palmate form, leathery, with linear or sword-shaped leaflets 20cm (8in) long.
  • White - greenish-white.

  • Tall Shrub - unbranched for many years. Mature plants develop a rounded head. Produces flowers in umbels 7-10cm (3-4in) across, followed on pollinated female plants by spherical black fruit 5mm (¼in) across.
  • Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
