Commonly known as Butterfly weed, Orange milkweed, Pleurisy root
Deciduous - lance-shaped mid-green leaves 10-14cm (4-5in) long. Orange-red or orange and yellow flowers are followed by seed pods 9-13cm (3-5in) long on nodding stalks.
Height - 90cm (36in)
Spread - 30cm (12in)
Herbaceous - Early in the year, typically January till end of March, herbaceous plants might be supplied in 9cm pots to ensure timely despatch. - tuberous, hairy perennial.
Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)
May cause skin allergy or irritant - Having skin or eye contact with these plants could result in an allergic reaction, burning or rash.
Additional Features - Good to know - wildlife plant. Butterflies and bees. Not as sappy as other varieties.
