ASPHODELINE lutea

Commonly known as King's spear, Yellow asphodel

Silvery-grey foliage with fragrant yellow spikes of flowers.

Available late spring to early summer 2021 - Spring according to the Met Office is defined as March 1st - May 31st. Therefore late spring is mid-April onwards. This is not a guaranteed date but an estimate and subject to availability.

Deciduous - furrowed, narrowly triangular leaves 35cm (14in) long, all along the flower stems, emerging after summer dormancy
Yellow
Height - 1.5m (5ft)

Herbaceous - Early in the year, typically January till end of March, herbaceous plants might be supplied in 9cm pots to ensure timely despatch. - clump-forming perennial. Flowers are followed by seed pods like shiny green marbles.
Hardy - cold winter - Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)
Full sun - mulch in autumn in colder areas.
Additional Features - Good to know - - do not confuse with Bog asphodel (Narthecium ossifragum).
Pests & Diseases - slugs, snails. aphids.
Place of origin - central and eastern Mediterranean and western Turkey.
