6th January 2021. In line with the current government lockdown rules, Burncoose Nurseries is closed to visitors. However at present we are able to offer click and collect to local customers. This will be weekdays only, not weekends. Mail order is continuing as normal. However please allow extra time for the couriers to deliver, once despatched from us. Sorry to say that some depots are experiencing high volumes of traffic, also staff shortages.

Commonly known as Yellow Banksian rose

Clusters of double primrose yellow flowers. Although reasonably hardy this thornless species does make an excellent conservatory plant

  • Semi-evergreen - Keeps some of its foliage all year, and will drop some leaves as well. - small, mid-green leaves composed of 3-7 oblong, lance-shaped to elliptic-ovate leaflets3-6cm (1¼-2½in) long
  • Yellow
  • Height - 6m (20ft)
  • Spread - 6m (20ft)
  • Climber - Some of these climbing plants will need trellis or wire supports if grown on walls or fences. Other grow aerial roots and are self-clinging - Climbing Species rose, once-flowering, with long, slender, smooth stems, practically thornless. Produces many clusters of rosette-shaped flowers with notched petals
  • Hardy - cold winter - Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)
  • Against a wall

  • Additional Features - Good to know - - brought to Europe in 1824. Needs a sheltered wall and protection from frost
  • Pests & Diseases - see header 'ROSA'
  • Place of origin - western and central China. Probably developed in Chinese gardens.
  • Flower Shape - Double - Multi rows of petals, no stamen showing - 2cm (¾in) across
  • Garden Location/Conditions - Greenhouse / conservatory - Not the sort of plants to be grown outside where there are likely to be frosts. These plants need to be grown in a conservatory or cool greenhouse or at least brought inside for the winter
  • Hardiness - Fully hardy -
  • Scented Plants - Scented flowers - - fragrance (1-10) 1-2, mild. Said to smell of violets.

  • Soil Conditions - Fertile moist well-drained soil - - moderately fertile, humus-rich
