Deciduous - ovate, pinnate leaves to 20cm (8in) long with 5-7, sometimes 9, diamond-shaped leaflets.

Purple - Shades of purple/mauve/lilac/violet - solid purple.

Medium shrub - Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height - thicket-forming shrub. Arching thicket-forming shrub with prickly shoots. Produces flowers to 1cm (½in) across in terminal racemes in summer.
