RUTA graveolens 'Jackman's Blue'

Commonly known as Herb of grace, Rue

Bluish grey foliage, good in coastal exposure. Severely toxic to skin in sunlight

  • Evergreen - intensely glaucous leaves to 15cm (6in) long with numerous lobes.
  • Yellow - dull yellow
  • Height - 60cm (24in)
  • Spread - 75cm (30in)
  • Dwarf shrub - Typically only grows to a maximum of one or two feet in height but there will be some exceptions. - compact rounded shrub. Produces cymes of 4-petalled flowers 2cm (¾in) across in summer.

  • Hardy - cold winter - Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)

  • Medicinal properties - an ancient herb used for a variety of medicinal purposes. It is said to help with menstrual difficulties and fresh leaves applied to the head may relieve tension or giddiness
